Who decides which companies are chosen?
Student teams and/or faculty select clients based upon their interest and ability to assist with the proposed project.
How do I know if my company was accepted?
All applicants will be contacted by the CSCP Coordinator and notified of the selection results. Please note the coordinator is a volunteer who works part-time. If selected, a faculty member or student team will contact you to set up an initial appointment between representatives from your organization and team members assigned to your project. If your company is not chosen you are welcome to reapply with a different project and/or leave the application active.
What is expected from my company?
- Professionalism, respect, honesty, open communication and punctuality are expected from both the students and the organization involved in the partnership.
- Representatives from the selected organizations must be willing to spend sufficient time over several months, possibly including evenings and weekends, meeting with students to provide information. This may involve sharing confidential information. Students cannot serve well if they lack the information needed to undertake what they are being asked to do.
- Upon completion of the project participating companies will be expected to complete an evaluation form, assessing the program and the services provided. Also, at a later date, a follow-up questionnaire will be sent to the organization to assess the long-term effects of the consultation. This critical information will help us to continue providing the highest level of service to our partnership companies.
What is the time frame for the project?
Clients are selected either prior to the start of a semester or within the first few weeks of the course. Meetings between organization representatives and the student team will begin shortly after company selection. Final presentations and written reports are due at the end of the course or semester.
How many students are assigned to our company?
This depends upon the nature of the project. There may be a team of 3 students or up to an entire class dedicated to your company.
When and how often do we meet with the students?
This also depends upon the nature of the project. There will always be at least two formal meetings; one at the start of a project where a representative from your organization meets with students to provide details of the situation, and one at the end of the project where the students give an oral and/or written presentation on their findings. There will also be a number of informal meetings, depending upon the course of action students need to take to arrive at a solution. It is strongly recommended that your company designate a contact for students’ questions throughout the project.
How is the information we provide used by the students?
The students use the information to assess the problem and, depending upon the complexity of the issue, may do any or all of the following: conduct research, perform market studies, and analyze financial data to arrive at a suggested recommendation.
How many credits do the students earn for their participation in SCP?
SCP is not an internship, therefore students do not earn credit for their participation in the program. Instead they receive a grade on their consulting work which, depending upon the professor and the course, may be their final grade or a percentage of their final grade.
How will we know the outcome of the consulting?
Your organization will receive a written report detailing the team’s findings, conclusions and recommendations. Students may also provide an oral presentation to the class, which representatives from your organization are invited and encouraged to attend.
