Full time students admitted to the College Student Personnel Administration program are eligible to interview for graduate assistantships. Assistantships are part time jobs in campus departments that provide both financial support and valuable experience. They are available both at Canisius College and at other institutions in the region. Assistantships at Canisius typically defray 75% of CSPA program costs. Residence Life assistantships typically provide a stipend and housing as well. Assistantships at other institutions pay a stipend directly to the student. The particular institution determines the value of the stipend. Some CSPA students continue their same assistantship in the second year of their studies. Others elect to interview for a new assistantship to provide additional experience in a new area or at another institution.

Assistantship opportunities are found in such areas as Career Services, Disability Support Services, International Student Programs, Residence Life, Student Activities and the Student Center, and Student Academic Advisement, among others. Assistantships typically require approximately 20-25 hours of work per week. However, those assistantships in Residence Life typically require a greater commitment!

A booklet containing the current available assistantships is made available each winter to prosepctive students who have been admitted to the program and to current first year students who wish to interview for a different position. Students are invited to interview for positions at Assistantship Day, which will be held on Friday, March 14,2008.  Click

Placement is determined by the number of positions available and the choice of the student, the interviewer, and the CSPA Director. We have been fortunate in the past to be able to place most, if not all full time students interested in assistantships, and we work each year to develop a sufficient number of positions. However, it is important to recognize that assistantships are not guaranteed to all students.
