Message from the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Scott Chadwick, PhDDear Faculty Member:
Welcome to Canisius College. We are grateful that you have chosen to support the mission of Canisius College to “educate the whole person through development of intellectual, moral, spiritual, and social qualities.” Collectively, we have a unique opportunity to share with our students our talents and skills in an environment that is intellectually stimulating and academically challenging.
Our institution relies on individuals like you to assist our academic departments in fulfilling our mission. We know you bring a rich and valuable set of experiences and backgrounds to the teaching and learning process, allowing us to offer our students what are often unique and wonderful educational experiences.
It is our goal to help you make your teaching experience the best that it can be. We have resources on campus to assist you with issues ranging from pedagogical strategies to classroom management to technology support. This website is designed for you to use as a guide to those resources. If questions arise that are not answered by this site or our “Procedures Manual,” our Center for Teaching Excellence is available for your use and consultation. The CTE is located in the lower level of Churchill Tower, 004. You are welcome to stop in or to call 888-2839.
Again, we are happy you have joined the Canisius community, and we welcome you warmly.
Sincerely,
Scott A Chadwick, Ph.D.

ID Card and Password
The Canisius College ID card system works in conjunction with Canisius Public Safety, Facilities Management, the Business Office, and our local vending company. The Canisius ID card can open doors, buy snacks, make copies at the Library, etc. Cards are issued by the Department of Public Safety (basement, Bosch Hall, ext. 2330).
Office Space and Resources
All faculty members are required to be available to students outside the time of the class meeting(s) for individual help and advisement. While each situation is different, it is recommended that the adjunct faculty member take seriously the obligation to provide whatever time is possible for this important responsibility. Some departments are able to provide adjunct faculty with office space for office hours; check with your chairperson to see if this is the situation in your area. The Faculty Lounge (Old Main-109) has traditionally been used by some adjunct faculty for office hours and tutoring. While this is a reasonable option, it is not one which the students find particularly comfortable, especially during the busy daytime hours when many faculty members are using the room for discussion and relaxation purposes. An alternative space is the adjunct office space in Old Main-411. The room is secured with a coded lock, and you may call Veronica Serwacki at ext. 2150 to access the code. Some faculty find an empty classroom or a library study room as a meeting room for office hours. Students and pertinent departments must be notified where and when office hours will be held.

Technology Resources
Instructional Technology
Instructional Technology Classrooms (ITCs)
All classrooms on campus include some level of technology, from video playback to state-of-the-art "smart" classrooms. The Instructional Technology Classroom List (PDF) provides a handy guide to the capabilities of each technology classroom. The Media Center publishes detailed instructions for using each ITC on its Instructional Support pages. ITCs can be reserved by calling the Registrar's Office, x2990, prior to the beginning of each semester. If you need ITC technology in your classroom, but none are available, equipment can be borrowed from the CTE.
Instructional Labs
Several classrooms are complete computer labs, provisioned with state-of-the-art teacher and student computer stations. These labs are reserved for teaching but are opened, when needed, at times of peak Library Lab usage.
Media Center
The Media Center provides media services, technical support, video production, and consultation using the latest state of the art equipment. The Media Center will support Canisius College's initiatives and will be responsive to instructional technology needs. Instructors are encouraged to take advantage of these resources.
Computer Accounts & Our Network
A computer account (username) is required for access to all networked computers include those in student labs. Computer accounts are automatically created for all new employees as soon as their employment has been processed by the Human Resources Department. Faculty members are encouraged to change their password regularly. The ITS Help Desk at x2299 may also be called for password problems.
Email Account
GriffMail is the standard web interface to electronic mail for students, faculty, and staff. With a web browser and an Internet connection faculty can check their e-mail from anywhere in the world. New messages and those saved are stored on the e-mail server not on the local hard drive making them accessible from any internet-connected computer.
Faculty members can click on the above link and use their password to login.
Most faculty, staff, and student e-mail addresses are available on the web in a searchable directory.
ANGEL Learning Management System
All faculty, staff and students have accounts for ANGEL, the College's Learning Management System, and can login with their Griffmail usernames and passwords. Instructors are able to post syllabi, course content and calendar items. All courses are automatically set up as date-enabled. They will be viewable by enrolled students on the Friday before classes begin. Faculty who do not want students to see their courses that early will need to access the "General Course Settings" on the Manage tab and change the start date.
For more information on ANGEL, check out the ANGEL Check list and Frequently Asked Questions
