The Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) will arrange classroom observations and/or private consultations on teaching, learning, or professional matters at the request of individual faculty members. These services are available to full-time and adjunct faculty and are offered for the purpose of assisting anyone who wishes to improve, maintain or "fine tune" professional skills in areas such as information delivery, classroom management, learning techniques, etc.
Requests for such interventions must be made to the CTE Director by the faculty member seeking assistance. Requests originating from third parties will not be accepted. Observations and/or consultations will be conducted by the CTE Director; or by a tenured faculty member, of acknowledged professional excellence, mutually agreed upon by the Director and the faculty member requesting assistance. In addition, the Director can conduct a Small Group Instrctional Diagnosis (SGID) which gathers information in an objective and annonynmous manner from students regarding their perceptions of the course and the instructor.
In order to ensure an unbreakable bond of trust, all communication between the CTE, its director, or its representatives and individual faculty members requesting and/or using these services is strictly confidential. Requests to the CTE from administrators, supervisors, department chairs, program directors, committees, etc. for verbal or written information, performance evaluations, testimony in rank or tenure decisions, etc. related to classroom observations and/or consultations requested by individual faculty members will be refused.
