The recently enhanced curriculum allows students to consider educational service in a wide range of environments. There are many opportunities for employment for teachers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Although deafness is a low incidence disability, there are always positions available in a variety of locations throughout the country and in Canada and in many educational settings. Graduates may decide to teach in residential, day schools, resource rooms, public inclusion or mainstreaming programs, or even hospital settings. In addition to classroom teaching, graduates have taken positions of leadership in areas of family/school connections. They also can hold positions working with deafblind individuals, with bilingual/ESL deaf individuals or with multi-handicapped persons. With additional studies, our deaf education graduates also can secure positions in counseling deaf persons, case management, or pursue doctoral studies.
