Bachelor's Degree in Finance - Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science degree in Finance is designed to help students understand the financial structure of various organizations and the basis of financial decision-making. Students learn about the ways businesses obtain and allocate monetary resources and how they handle investments. The major includes training in the use of spreadsheets, databases, and statistical software.
The program focuses on four main areas of finance:
- Business finance
- Investment and portfolio management
- Financial markets
- Institutions and risk analysis
The program offers a concentration designed to help students prepare for exams for licenses as Chartered Financial Analysts (CFA), Certified Financial Planners (CFP), insurance brokers, and stock brokers. The five-year MBA program enables students in business or liberal arts to earn an undergraduate degree and an MBA within a five-year period. The academically challenging, streamlined course of study cuts a full year off the time usually required to earn both degrees.
