NYS Teacher Certification

New York State has adopted a new certification application process, called TEACH. This process is completely on-line and the New York State Department of Education no longer accepts paper applications. Candidates will need to create their personal TEACH account, type in education and employment information, answer questions and pay for certificate(s), all within the TEACH on-line program.

College Endorsement:  Candidates are entitled to the Canisius endorsement for the certificate application(s). The college endorsement verifies to NYS Dept. of Education that a candidate has completed one of our Teacher Approved Programs. This does not automatically grant a certificate.
The college endorsement cannot be entered until all certification coursework/student teaching/practicum/internships have been completed and have received a grade. Candidates who complete registered, teacher approved programs do not apply through B.O.C.E.S.

Candidates must complete a master's degree in order to obtain professional certification. This master's degree must either lead to an additional certificate or extension or include at least twelve (12) credit hours which combines pedagogy with an academic discipline. Unlike permanent certification, the professional certificate will be a five-year renewable certificate. During each five (5) year period, the holder of a professional certificate will be required to complete 175 hours of professional development activities in order to renew the professional certificate.

Directions have been posted for each graduate certification program. The directions explain how to set up TEACH accounts and apply for certificate(s)
