sports medicine health & human performance

The Sports Medicine, Health & Human Performance department offers undergraduate programs in Athletic Training and Health and Human Performance. The athletic training major is a bachelor of science degree and the Health & Human Performance program is a minor.

A master's degree program in Health & Human Performance is housed in the department on the graduate level.

All of the programs have been designed to educate future health care professionals. The Health & Human Performance programs lead the student to certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. The Athletic Training degree program prepares students for the Board of Certification examination. Both areas prepare students to have an impact on the delivery of health and preventative care to individuals.

The state of the art Health and Human Performance facility is located in Demerly Hall. The spacious facility houses faculty offices, a classroom, an exercise area for instruction and clientele programs in addition to areas for stress testing and body composition analysis.

A significant portion of the clinical experience for the athletic training major is contained in the new Center for Athletic Training that offers patient care from the athletic training and medical staff. In addition to the center, the major has a dedicated athletic training laboratory/class room and a research center for sports medicine located within the Koessler Athletic Center.

Department faculty and instructors have earned national recognition for research, publication, and service in their fields. Low student to faculty ratios allow for individualized attention for each student.
