STUDENT TEACHING
You will be provided with further directions and information on the process described below during your Seminar in Teaching and Assessment or Advanced Methods and Practicum. Any additional questions or concerns should be directed to the Director of Field Experiences, Elizabeth Brandjes, at 888-2768.
To apply for Student Teaching you MUST complete
1 and 2 below:
- Student Teaching Application - click here to access application
- Personal Information Sheet - click here to access Word document. Do not forget to delete the directions box before sending.
A Personal Information Sheet (PI) acts as a resume that will be sent to the schools where you will be assigned to student teach. It will be viewed by the Principal, Cooperating/ Associate Teacher and College Supervisor. It is a representation of who you are, so it is important that you take the time to accurately depict a summary of your education and experience.
The PI must not exceed two pages and should be carefully proofread and formatted. A Word document should be emailed as an attachment to studtch@canisius.edu.
Upon submitting BOTH the STUDENT TEACHING APPLICATION and the PERSONAL INFORMATION SHEET a student teaching file will be created for you by the Office of Field Experiences.
If there are any changes in your contact information throughout the course of the year, please notify our office immediately. Delays in communicating changes may delay correspondence regarding placements and student teaching related communication.
NOTE:
Submission of this application authorizes the Office of Field Experiences to register you for student teaching and required related courses prior to finalizing your placements.
Placements are made at the discretion of the Director of Field Experiences. It is understood that all placements must come from Canisius College, and candidates may not not contact a school district or an individual school. Candidates will be informed by mail of placements.
U.S candidates: no placements will be made outside of Erie and Niagara Counties.
