Teacher Candidates Say...

"Conducting my clinical work in Tapestry Charter School was rewarding on so many levels. The state of the art technologies accessible to me made my experience there most effective. The staff are all wonderful individuals who are always willing to help in any way possible, and the staff development meetings are informative, compelling, and fun!"

"Student teaching in a professional development school presents many great opportunities for Canisius education majors. We were able to learn a great deal from workshops where teachers and administrators from Lindbergh Elementary School collaborated with Canisius faculty and professors. Some of these workshops included how to make the best use of the library services at your school, how to administer NYS tests, and learning about the different changes in the Common Core Learning Standards. Teaching at Lindbergh also offers student teachers a constant source of support because Canisius advisors, professors, and other students are consistently present and available for assistance, advice, and collaboration.

"I feel very fortunate to have been given the opportunity to complete my pre-student and student teaching at Tapestry. Here I have had the privilege to work with an amazing team of teachers and staff that are really committed to seeing not only their students succeed but their student teachers as well. Working with Adrianna Didas in Spanish I have gained so many classroom management skills and learned how to integrate the arts into everyday instruction. Tapestry provided me with that culture of constant self-evaluation that keeps teachers on their toes and always looking for better ways to reach every student. The administration does a superb job of providing teachers with time to meet and cooperatively plan; something essential in an expeditionary learning school. As a student teacher, I was brought right into this sense of community and given the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of faculty members from all content areas. I would not trade this experience for anything. I feel it has truly expanded my experience as an educator, helped to foster my personal teaching style, and given me amazing tools to continue my development in education."

"I have been lucky to be placed at Lindbergh Elementary for both my field observation placement and for student teaching. The faculty and staff are extremely helpful and kind. Everyone you walk by in the halls always has a smile on their face and gives a friendly "hello!" The collaboration of teachers in each grade is inspiring as everyone seems to work hand-in-hand towards the same goals. From the librarians, to the physical education teachers, the teacher-aides, and the secretaries, everyone at Lindbergh looks out for each other and does their part to work as a team. There is an extreme sense of unity within the building and I feel, even though I have only been there a few weeks, that I am part of the Lindbergh community. The principal, Mr. Muscarella, leads by example and prides himself on making Lindbergh a school that has constant faculty, administrative, family, and communitiy involvement. You can tell a lot about a school from its student body and the students at Lindbergh are positive, active, and motivated children who are eager to come to school each day. I only hope that I will be fortunate enough to begin my teaching career at a school like Lindbergh Elementary!"

"My experience at Tapestry has exceeded my expectations. I have gained so much experience and guidance over the past few months. From teaching difficult material with continuous critical but positive feedback, to participating in expeditions, field work, and various meetings, I have been able to see what teaching truly encompasses. I am so grateful to the teachers, administrators, and students at Tapestry who welcome student teachers with open arms. I was fortunate to be in such an innovative environment and hope that one day I am lucky enough to be employed by a school like Tapestry. Thank you, Dr. Wallace, for helping to build the great connection that Tapestry and Canisius has, I hope that this bond continues for future Canisius and Tapestry students to benefit from."

"I'm extremely thankful to have had the opportunity to work with such a supporting cooperating teacher, department, and fellow teachers. I've learned so much each day and am improving all the time. The supportive environment for teachers that Tapestry has created is one which other schools should model thiers upon. It is a place where I never feel isolated, never alone, always welcomed, and treated like a teacher. I absolutely love working with Ms. Franke and we have built such a positive relationship. Tapestry's student teaching program (in essence mentoring) is fantastic and I hope other students get to have experiences similar to mine. Although there are and will always be times that are difficult, especially working with students of this age, the positive experiences outweigh the negatives tenfold and I will miss my students and the teachers I have become friends with."
