Statistics at Canisius:  SPSS
Canisius College licenses the basic SPSS for Windows, along with Advanced Models, Regression Models, and Trends.   This statistical software can be accessed on campus in all the PC computer labs or from a networked office PC.

Faculty and staff laptop users who wish to “check out” a copy of SPSS for a day or two at a time should contact the FacTS Center staff for information.  Others who require off-campus use for an extended period of time might want to consider “renting” SPSS from E-Academy.net (http://estore.e-academy.com/) or ordering a graduate student version from the College bookstore.
Checkbox
Many campus department or groups are interested in developing surveys. We are fortunate to have on campus a full-featured survey creator, Checkbox.  This software creates surveys that are both administered and tabulated online.   This survey package has already been used for a wide variety of purposes on campus, from quick “pulse-taking” surveys to campus elections.  For more information about using Checkbox, please contact the FacTS Center staff.
Task Stream
Task Stream is an electronic portfolio (ePortfolio) that, like its original analog the paper portfolio, allows students to save or archive work for growth and learning comparisons and evaluation by the student’s advisor. The School of Education uses ePortfolios extensively throughout the curriculum. Students are required to submit “common assignments”  and reflections in specific courses in each academic year. Professors evaluate and grade the student’s work based on standardized rubrics and these are further reviewed with the students by their advisors.
Turnitin
Turn-It-In is a web-based application that detects, and deters plagiarism. It can also be used as a teaching tool to help students learn how to properly integrate reference materials into assignments and enables academic integrity. Digital assignments may be submitted by the professor or by the student and an originality report is generated. Matches are identified along with their sources which identifies passages that require further consideration. TurnItIn Documentation:
The FacTS Center staff is available for consultation on the tools described above. More information about available software can be found at the ITS documentation page.
