Learn Outside the Classroom
- Canisius Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) is an international, non-profit organization active on more than 1,400 university campuses in 48 countries. Students apply business concepts and the lessons they learn in the classroom, to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need in Western New York and around the world.
- Through the Mexi-Canisius Imports Project, students travel to Mexico with Canisius faculty members to buy arts and crafts from indigenous artisans in rural areas. Once they return to Buffalo, they work with other students to import the crafts to sell on campus. Through this project, students are able to support economic development in Mexico, and learn about international business. The proceeds of the sales are put back into the project to keep it going for future classes.
- QuadGear is a student-managed business that sells customized apparel and promotional products – everything from t-shirts to bumper stickers. The mission is to provide products to companies and organizations to help increase their awareness and appeal, and to give students an opportunity to take what they’ve learned in the classroom, and apply it in a “real-life” business setting.
