Buffalo was ranked a top arts destination by American Style magazine, just behind New York City, Chicago and Washington, DC. There are many opportunities to gain practical experience through an internship with one of our local museums, including the Buffalo Museum of Science, the Castellani Museum and the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society. Canisius is within walking distance of the world-renowned Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
Many art history majors study abroad. Our program in London begins with a week-long seminar which includes guided tours of major museums. Study abroad experiences are also available in France, Germany, Spain, Ireland and Belgium.
The art history program, as part of the Fine Arts Department at Canisius, also sponsors many art lectures and studio art displays on campus. Student and faculty art work is continually on view in the Peter A. and Mary Lou Vogt Art Gallery located in Lyons Hall.
