Music majors choose a concentration in one of four sequences: music history and literature, performance, music education or music technology. Music appreciation courses cover a wide range of musical styles and give students the basic materials of music and an introduction to the lives, works and historical settings of the significant composers of the past and present. Through videos, listening exercises, lectures and concerts, students acquire the music vocabulary and listening skills necessary to analyze and critique music of different cultures. They also develop a clear understanding and appreciation of music from different periods.
To accommodate individual goals and career objectives, students must choose electives carefully in consultation with the Music Program Director,
Jane Cary.
