Stuart Fuchs, ukulele, and Friends
Brought to Hawaii by Portuguese Sailors in 1879, this tiny four-stringed instrument has captured the imagination of every generation the encounters it. Although it looks like a toy, you will hear in this concert/lecture lively ukulele music ranging from its Portuguese and Hawaiian origins through the era of vaudeville and Tin Pan Alley, Jazz, Blues--even J.S. Bach!

Created by bassist Jennifer May, the 15-piece all-female jazz group “Ladies First” is winner of the 2010 Buffalo Music Award for Best Jazz Group, sponsored by Nightlife Magazine.
