Art History Scholarships


Canisius College offers art history scholarships for new students entering fall 2008 and planning to major in art history.

Students who demonstrate an interest in studying the history of art are eligible for $2,000 per year, guaranteed for four years.

Requirements:
  • Admission to Canisius College as a full-time student for Fall 2008
  • Letter of application from the student, describing extent of experience with art history and outlining reasons for planning to major in the discipline 
    Note: there is no separate application form.
  • Two letters of recommendation from teachers, including one which discusses the student’s exposure to and experience with art history
  • Interview, either in person or by phone, with the Canisius art history faculty
Optional Criteria:

  • Score of three or above on the Advanced Placement Art History exam
  • Grade of B or above in a high school art history course
Students who receive art history scholarships will be expected to maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 and to participate in art history activities.

Music Scholarships


Numerous $2,000 scholarships are available to incoming freshmen, and are renewable for four years. It is not necessary to be a music major or minor to apply for a music scholarship.

Criteria:
  • Admission to Canisius College as a full-time student Fall 2008 semester.
  • High school music performance experience (solo or ensemble)
  • Application tape/CD: 5 minutes total. Two contrasting styles of music.
    (Sections of movements or etudes are acceptable)
  • Solo audition by invitation pending review of application and tape/CD.
References
Include two letters of reference. One should be from a music teacher. Other suggested sources include high school principal, teacher, guidance counselor, community/church leader.

Recipients
Upon review of documentation and tape by the scholarship committee, the final pool of applicants will be invited on campus for an audition and interview to be held in February 23, 2008. Final selection will be made by the scholarship committee. (Those residing outside a 300 mile radius can audition by tape/CD. Call the music office for requirements.)

Conditions:
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Active participation in one of the Canisius College performance ensembles
  • Membership in the Arts Promotion Club

Studio Art Scholarships


Numerous $2,000.00 studio art scholarships are available to incoming first-year students. The scholarships are renewable for four years.

Criteria:
  • Admission to Canisius as a full-time student for Fall 2008 semester.
  • Slide sheet or compact disc (no zip discs, please) of 10 to 20 works in any medium/a, within the last two years, properly labeled.
References
Two letters of recommendation (.pdf) from teachers, counselor, community/church leader.  One of the two letters should be from an art teacher familiar with the applicant’s work who can comment on the student’s developing art skills.

Recipients
After review of completed application by the scholarship committee, students will be notified by mail.

Conditions:
  • Maintain a 2.5 GPA. Enter Canisius with intent to minor in studio art.
  • Active four year participation in ArtsCanisius Promotion Club.
Deadline
Completed application must be received at the address below by Friday, January 25, 2008.
