Student Health confirms that 2009 H1N1 influenza was circulating on campus during the fall semester.  The number of students seeking care for flu like illness peaked during the period of 10/19/09- 11/13/2009.

Student Health strongly recommends that all students receive a seasonal flu vaccine and the 2009 H1N1 vaccine before returning to campus later this month.

NEW FOR STUDENTS -- H1N1 Flu (SWINE) Reporting System
Students can report their illness with H1N1 flu to faculty and campus officials using this new system.

August 7, 2009
CDC issued new recommendations this week regarding the amount of time individuals with flu like symptoms should remain at home and out of school and work.

Individuals with flu like illness should remain at home and out of work, school and community activities until they have been fever free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicines.  A fever is defined as a temperature of 100ºF or 37.8ºC.

Individuals returning to full activity can still shed virus to others for 10 days or longer.  Those individuals should continue to follow strict infection control while on campus including covering their cough, frequent handwashing, avoid handshaking and maintaining a distance of at least 6 feet  from others for this period.

This new information replaces the 7 days self isolation previously recommended by the CDC.
