Dr. Jeffrey Lindauer PhD Department Chair Associate Professor E-mail: lindauej@canisius.edu Phone: (716) 888-2196 Dr. Jeff Lindauer is the Department Chair of Physical Education, Health, and Sport Studies and Graduate Program Director at Canisus College. Dr. Lindauer began at Canisius College in the fall of 2008 after six years at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He completed his undergraduate degree at Wartburg College in Iowa, a Master's Degree at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and completed his Doctoral work at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Lindauer has several years of public school teaching experience both at the elementary and high school levels and has coached football, basketball, and track and field at the high school level. He is a Past-President of the Wisconsin Association of Health, Recreation, and Dance, and has received numerous awards for his service to the profession. Dr. Lindauer’s research interests center around professional development of pre-service teachers, teaching effectiveness, and integrating technology in physical education. Dr. Lindauer is especially interested in developing collaborative experiences for pre-service physical educators in order to provide hands-on learning experiences for his students. Tim Sawicki EdD Associate Professor Program Director, Online Physical Education E-mail: sawickit@canisius.edu Phone: (716) 888-2898 Dr. Timothy Sawicki is the Director of the Online Physical Education Masters degree at Canisus College. Dr. Sawicki has been teaching at Canisius College since the fall of 1997. He completed his undergraduate degree at Brock University in Ontario a Master's Degree at the University of Western Ontario and completed his Doctoral work at the University of Toronto and University of Wisconsin. Dr. Sawicki came to Canisius after teaching at Brock University for several years. He is considered an expert in his field of motor development having written over 50 published articles on teaching in physical education and presented at conferences locally, nationally and internationally. Dr. Sawicki developed the online Masters degree in physical education in 2006. His PEG 560 Motor Development lectures notes, and hand-outs were put online for the first time in Fall of 2000. The courses Dr. Sawicki teaches are: PEG 651 (Coaching), PEG 584 (Portfolio Development and Final Exam), PED211 (Movement Education), and PEG 560 (Motor Development). Dr. Sawicki is a certified elementary, middle and high school teacher. He was a university lacrosse coach for ten years and was on the coaching staff of the National lacrosse team. He is an avid ice hockey player, lacrosse player and more recently an amateur boxer. | |

Greg Reeds EdD Associate Professor E-mail: reedsg@canisius.edu Phone: (716) 888-2952 Dr. Reeds resumed full-time teaching responsibilities in the fall of 2008 after serving as the departments Chair and Director of Graduate Studies for nine years. Prior to his tenure as an administrator and teaching professor, he served as the College's Head Men's Soccer Coach leading the program to a regular season MAAC Championship title in 1997. Before his arrival to the Canisius campus in the fall of 1988, Dr. Reeds taught at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada and was the Head Coach of the Men's Soccer program. His teams were ranked in the nations top 10 of the CIAU. Dr. Reeds earned undergraduate degrees in Physical Education (Hons.), Psychology and Sociology (minor) from McMaster University (B.P.E.) and in Education (B.Ed.) from the University of Toronto. He holds a master's degree in Human Kinetics (MHK) in Sport Psychology from the University of Windsor and a Doctorate in Exercise Science (Ed.D) with a specialization in Physical Education and a concentration in Sport Psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a certified high school teacher of Physical and Health Education and Psychology (Individual in Society) and has taught in the Hamilton-Wentworth Public School Board. Dr. Reeds teaches undergraduate courses in Sport Psychology and Mental Health (HED 461), Human Learning, Growth and Development (PED 380) and Coaching Theory and Techniques (PED 351). He is registered as a Certified Coaching Educator (CCE) with NY State (Boces); The American Sport Education Program (ASEP); and with the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) in Canada. At the graduate level, he offers on-line courses in Sport Psychology which focus on Performance Enhancement (PEG 540) and Counseling (PEG 543). His research interest's lie in the area of personality assessment and information processing. Most recently he collected data on how children acquire skills and perform on sports related video games based on hemispheric specialization. As a varsity student-athlete Dr. Reeds lettered in soccer at McMaster University and at the University of Toronto and played for the Guelph Oaks Soccer Club and the Hamilton Sparta Football Club of the Ontario Inter-City Soccer League. He also served as the Assistant General Manager for the Hamilton Steelers in the professional Canadian Soccer League. His background in Sport Psychology has lead to an interesting array of consulting and research opportunities with elite amateur teams (Olympics) and with professional teams (N.H.L. and A.H.L). He has maintained his connections with the University of Windsor as a research associate at the Sport Institute of Research. For his work at Canisius College he was inducted into the Alpha Sigma Lambda Society for contributions to the lives of adult learners and he was recently recognized for his twenty years of service. Clancy Seymour Clinical Instructor Physical Education, Health and Sport Studies E-mail: seymourc@canisius.edu Phone: (716) 888-2949 Mr. Seymour joined the Department as a full-time faculty member in the Fall of 2007. Currently, Clancy teaches Cooperative Activities and Measurement and Evaluation at both the Undergraduate and Graduate Level. He is also the Lead Professor in the Secondary Methods of Physical Education course in the curriculum. This is the culminating class prior to the Clinical Teaching experience where he helps to certify all candidates for eligibility. Clancy is also responsible for the policies, procedures and implementation of the Pre-Student Teaching program in the Department. Previously at Canisius College, Clancy was an Academic Advisor for the Department of Athletics, where he was responsible for the NCAA Academic Eligibility for over 270 studentathletes. It was in this role, that he started teaching various courses for the Department of Physical Education as an adjunct faculty member. Originally from Brampton, Ontario, Canada, Mr. Seymour is a former student-athlete at Canisius College, receiving his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in 1997 and 1998. On November 14th 2008, Clancy was honored with a ten year Service Award to the college. Physical Education has a strong presence in his life. He lives in Buffalo with his wife Karin Seymour, who is also a Graduate of the Canisius College PE Program and a local area PE Teacher. | |

Dr. Jane Sinden Adjunct Faculty E-mail: sindenj@canisius.edu Dr. Jane Sinden, is an Adjunct professor for our online program. She completed two undergraduate degrees; one in Economics and Politics at Queens University in Ontario, and another in Physical Education at Brock University in Ontario. In addition, she received a Master's Degree in Education at Brock University and a PhD in Education from the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Sinden is presently a fulltime professor at Redeemer University college in Canada. Dr. Sinden has over 15 years experience teaching at the post secondary school level. Before coming to Canisius she taught intermediate/senior physical education, and courses in health in the teacher's college program at the University of Western Ontario. Also, she regularly taught the honors specialist physical education additional qualification course for Ontario teachers. Dr. Sinden, is a retired elite female National team rower. She achieved numerous awards at the University level and as a coach she was named Ontario University Association (OUA) Female coach of the year in 2002 and 2003, for her excellence in Varsity coaching. Dr. Sinden’s passion and experience has guided her research and interest areas, as they relate to issues concerning health, athletes, and physical education. Specifically, her areas of interest include Health, Teaching and Learning in Physical Education, Sport Psychology, Emotions in Sport, Motor Learning, Youth Sport, Sociology and Philosophy of Sport and Coaching. Recently, Dr. Sinden has been invited to speak on health and athletes' rights, at the Olympic Reform conference in Toronto Ontario. | |

Julie Young PhD Assistant Professor E-mail: young14@canisius.edu Phone: (716) 888-3759 A recent addition to the PEHSS Department at Canisius, Dr. Young is focusing on preparation of future health educators. She completed her undergraduate and Master's Degree at Harding University in Sports Management and HPER respectively, and Doctorate at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in Kinesiology-Exercise. She came to Canisius after teaching at the University of Arkansas, Henderson State University, Arkansas Tech University, and several years at the high school level. Teaching expertise is in the area of health education, health and wellness, physical education, several sport and fitness areas such as yoga, pilates, dance, and aquatics. Having written and presented at conferences on exercise treatment programs for special populations, Dr. Young's current research interest is in developing instructional strategies for health educators and pre-student teaching field placement opportunities that enhance the preservice preparation of future health and physical educators. Jong-Hoon Yu EdD Assistant Professor E-mail: yuj@canisius.edu Phone: (716) 888-3147 Dr. Jong-Hoon Yu has been a member of the Canisius College faculty since 2005. He earned his master degree from Indiana University and doctorate degree from Boston University. His areas of specialization include descriptive - analytic studies using systematic observation instruments, analysis of teacher and student behaviors, and teaching effectiveness. Dr. Yu is currently teaching graduate courses including research methods, comprehensive exam, and self-defense. He is a first-Dan black belt in taekwondo and has developed the self-defense unit in the P.E. curriculum. He serves as the faculty advisor of the Canisius College table tennis club. He is also actively involved in assisting international students on campus. He is a member of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYS AHPERD), American Alliance for r Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), Korean Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (KAHPERD), and Korean Association of Sport Pedagogy (KASP). He enjoys table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, and family activity in his spare time. Dr. Yu lives in East Amherst, with wife, Ryanghi and their daughter, Grace. |
