New Student Orientation - August 25-28, 2016
Welcome to the Canisius College! We are excited that you have chosen to become part of the Canisius College family, and we’re looking forward to providing you with a solid beginning to your undergraduate education. To this end, we have designed a New Student Orientation program to take care of this all-important first step in your college success.
Our mandatory 4-day summer New Student Orientation (NSO) program for all incoming undergraduate first year and transfer students will take place Thursday, August 25 - Saturday, August 27, 2016, Sunday August 28 will be optional. The New Student Summer Orientation program includes resident student move-in day, a student services fair, New Student Convocation, an academic day, a student life day, various workshops, nightly entertainment, as well as multiple opportunities that will build community and tradition among all students.
In an effort to assist you with your transition to Canisius, we strongly encourage you to attend the entire 4-day program. However, we have designed the program to meet your busy lifestyle. Please note the following requirements for New Student Orientation:
- Orientation/Move-In for Freshmen Honors students will take place on Wednesday, August 24, please contact the Honors Department
for more information.
- Freshmen/Transfer students are required to attend Thursday, August 25 – Saturday, August 27, 2016. Sunday, August 28 will be optional.
- Adult Students (Adult students are students 22 years of age or older). We encourage adult students to take advantage of the entire orientation schedule. However, to assist you with your transition to Canisius, we suggest that you follow the Transfer Student schedule located on the myCanisius portal.
- Parents and families are invited to attend and participate in the New Student Orientation activities on Thursday, August 25, 2016.
The orientation fee will be applied to your fall tuition bill and is non-refundable. The New Student Orientation fee for the summer orientation program is:
- Freshmen - $275 per student (fee includes up to 2 guests)
- Transfers - $175 per student (fee includes up to 2 guests)
Guests are welcome to attend the orientation events on Thursday. If you choose to bring more than two guests, there will be a non-refundable charge of $30 for each additional person. Payment for additional guests, if any, must be made online at the time of registration through myCanisius and may be made by credit card or e-check.
Registration for the summer New Student Orientation program will only be available online through myCanisius, the new student portal beginning April 15th. You will need your Canisius username and password that was issued to you at the time of your acceptance by the Admissions department. If you do not know or have misplaced your username or password, please contact the Information Technology Services (ITS) Help Desk at 716-888-8340.
Once logged in select the box titled “New Student Orientation” on the left hand side of the screen and click on the "Register for Orientation" button on the right hand side. In order to accommodate the needs of all students and families, it is important that you register online by August 11, 2016.
New Student Orientation Schedule
A complete and detailed New Student Orientation schedule will be available early August. You can download a tentative schedule from myCanisius under "Schedule of Events" tab in the New Student Orientation section of the portal.
Canisius College Student ID Cards
All students are required to have a GRIFF PASS, a Canisius College Student ID Card. You are required to submit/upload your photo for your student ID by August 1st.
To submit your photo log into myCanisius with your username and password, “click” on the Upload ID Card Photo button located on the left hand column of the portal page, and follow the directions listed.
You will be notified by email once your photo has been approved. Your student ID card will be available for pick up at the Student Services Fair at New Student Orientation.
Attention all International (non-Canadian) and Exchange Students
Please DO NOT REGISTER for New Student Orientation via the portal. It is required that you attend the mandatory International Student Orientation in early August (date to be determined).
