Dr. Khalid W. Bibi came to Canisius College in 1991, while completing his doctoral studies on the effects of exercise on premenstrual syndromes at the University of Connecticut. After completing his Ph.D. in 1995, he began plans for establishing a Master’s Degree Program in Health and Human Performance at Canisius College. This dream came to fruition when he secured a grant from the U.S. Department of Education to partially fund the establishment of the program and renovations of the former Streng Oldsmobile building that had been purchased by the college to house the program. This 4,400 square foot, state-of-the-art facility, named Demerly Hall in honor of the late John Demerly, Ph.D., Canisius College class of 1938, was designed specifically to meet the demands of the new program.
Professionally, Dr. Bibi is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), one of the leading authorities in health and exercise science. He is certified as a Health Fitness Instructor (HFI), and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Both at Canisius College and other institutions, Dr. Bibi has worked with professional, collegiate, and recreational athletes, as well as patients in cardiac rehabilitation programs.
Academically, Dr. Bibi has earned national renown as an educator and a researcher. He has authored or co-authored numerous abstracts, manuscripts, and textbook chapters. In addition, he co-edited
ACSM’s Health & Fitness Certification Review, and more recently the
ACSM Certification Review, 2nd edition. These resources are recommended by the ACSM for all students preparing for their Certified Personal Trainer (cPT), Health Fitness Instructor (HFI), and Exercise Specialist (ES) certification exams.
Dr. Khalid Bibi is on a leave of absence from the college. For the 2007-2008 school year he is serving as an Associate Dean at Northeastern University in Boston, MA.
