Mary Jo Parker, M.S., R.D., C.D.N., Registered Dietitian/Nutrition Therapist and Consultant, has been in private practice in Western New York for 20 years. Counseling individuals and groups who have a variety of nutritional needs, she specializes in the treatment of eating disorders and obesity. In addition, she offers therapeutic nutrition intervention for the prevention and treatment of chronic disease states. Her expertise is often sought for sports nutrition education and counseling as well.
Ms. Parker facilitates eating disorder and weight management groups, including Forever Fit Total Weight Management for adults and Shapedown pediatric programs, and develops customized eating disorder psychoeducational groups. As consultant to several local corporations, schools and organizations, she conducts group programs, workshops and seminars on contemporary health and nutrition topics. She serves as a consultant to the news media on nutrition and related issues, and is a frequent guest on television and radio programs. In addition to her practice, Ms. Parker serves as adjunct professor of nutrition at Canisius College’s School of Health and Human Performance. In the past, she has served as nutrition director for a health and rehabilitation facility, and for an eating disorders partial hospitalization program.
Ms. Parker holds a bachelor’s degree in clinical nutrition from Cornell University and a master’s degree in counseling and nutrition from the State University of New York College at Buffalo. Her certified dietary interviewer designation is from the University of Minnesota, Nutrition Coordinating Center and her certified obesity specialist designation is from the University of California at San Francisco, School of Medicine. Active in national, state and regional dietetic associations, Ms. Parker is a member of several dietetic practice groups, including Nutrition in Complementary Care, Nutrition Entrepreneurs, and Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists. She holds professional affiliations with the International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals and the Academy for Eating Disorders.
