Philanthropic support is essential to maintain and enhance the distinctive elements of the All-College Honors Program at Canisius College. One-time donations, annual gifts, and endowed funds are powerful ways that the program can use to recruit and retain students of the highest caliber.

What role do gifts play within the All-College Honors Program?
Now approaching the 50th anniversary of its founding, the Canisius All-College Honors Program depends on financial contributions to sustain its excellent reputation. Funds help to strengthen our central mission, which is to build a community of scholars and to provide exceptional education experiences to highly motivated, talented, and creative undergraduates in all majors. Beyond accelerated academic coursework, what makes the Honors Program so valuable are the extensive co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that are available. Over and over again, we hear students say, “This program has made an overwhelming difference in my college experience and achievement.”

What initiatives will my gift support?
Your gift to the All-College Honors Program Fund supports the new and ongoing needs of the program. The experiences of our Honors students are enriched as contributions enable us to undertake these worthwhile activities:
  • Theatrical performances
  • Scholarly travel
  • Lecture series
  • Out-of-town retreat
  • Senior thesis grants
  • Book Club

  • Lunch & Learn series
  • Historic/architectural tours
  • Musical performances
  • Summer research stipends
  • Honors Post-Journal
    • These are just a few examples of how your contributions—large and small—help our students. More information about these activities can be found under the “Opportunities” section of this website.

With additional funds, the program can be expanded further to help support students who wish to study abroad or attend scholarly conferences and to bring to campus renowned professors for week-long symposia, among other possibilities. Donors might consider giving to the Honors Program in any of the following ways:
      • contribute to the Honors Enrichment Fund
      • endow scholarships or fellowships
      • endow a student thesis or leadership prize
      • endow a lecture series
      • endow student research stipends
      • endow an Honors course
      • endow a visiting professorship or a symposium
      • endow a faculty scholar
      • purchase or renovate institutional space, esp. an Honors Center
      • name the Honors Program itself
Why should I give to Honors?

Some graduates regard their contributions as an act of appreciation for what the Honors Program has given them. A gift to the program means a great deal to the future: creating an environment where teaching and learning can flourish, and preparing graduates to be successful and caring members of society.
