William Schoenl (Canisius Honors class of 1963) and Linda Schoenl have generously designated their annual gift of $1,200 to sponsor an All-College Honors student who participates in a Canisius College international service-immersion trip arranged by Campus Ministry. Their gift enhances the college’s Jesuit mission to educate “men and women for others” and to prepare leaders for life. The Schoenls’ goal is to instill or further develop in Honors students deep human values and a sense of responsibility and social justice. By experiencing adversity firsthand, Honors students will better understand what adversity is, help to alleviate it in a limited way while on the service project, and work later in life to continue addressing dire needs.

Scholarship Criteria
  1. Preference given to applicants who have not studied abroad or gone on an international service-immersion trip.
  2. Application
    a. a 3-page statement explaining your reasons for participating in a given international service-immersion project
    b. personal resume that includes any volunteer work you may have contributed for the betterment of society
  3. GPA (3.5 in Honors and 3.5 overall in all courses)
  4. A final report consisting of a 5-page paper and digital images about the project
  5. No repeat Schoenl scholarship winners
Deadline for submission:  November 1
