FOR LIBRARIANS
Grievances regarding assignments, procedures, policies, performance, evaluations, working conditions, or individual rights must first be discussed with the librarian's immediate supervisor.
If a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached at this level, the problem must be discussed with the Associate Vice President. If a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached at this level, an appeal can be made to the Librarians' Advisory Committee for review.
If either party is not satisfied with the decision of the Librarians' Advisory Committee or feels the problem is not within its jurisdiction, an appeal may be made to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Upon recommendation of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the President of the College will appoint the members of the Librarians' Grievance Committee. It will consist of two librarians, three faculty members, one administrator and one student. This Committee will choose its own chairperson as well as the time and place of the meeting. The grievance will be presented to the Grievance Committee in written form at least one working day before the meeting, and again in person before the Committee. Likewise, the immediate supervisor and/or the Associate Vice President must appear before the Committee to present one's points of view. The decision will be reached and communicated within three working days. The Committee shall submit its recommendation for settlement of the case to the Associate Vice President. In the event that the Associate Vice President's decision is not in accord with the Committee's judgment, the compelling reasons for this shall be stated in detail to the Committee and to the Librarian initiating the appeal. All decisions of the Committee and the Associate Vice President shall be presented in written form. The librarian concerned may appeal to the Vice President for Academic Affairs if the Associate Vice President does not concur with the Committee. The decision of the Vice President shall be final.
