Abstract:
When studying mathematics in University, it may seem as if there are
limited career paths available post-graduation. A career as an actuary
is a great opportunity in the field of applied mathematics. An actuary
uses statistics, financial mathematics and economics every day on the
job the occupation was ranked the second best career by the Wall Street
Journal in January 2009.
I will give an overview of the actuarial profession, the exam process
involved, and my personal experience on the job as an actuarial intern
at Blue Cross Blue Shield in WNY and Buck Consultants in Toronto, ON.
This talk will provide vital information for anyone considering a career
in the actuarial field.
