The forces of globalization have had a dramatic impact on the business world. Many companies doing business today seek employees who understand how business is conducted globally, speak a language in addition to English and have world travel experience.
The International Business program at Canisius consists of three parts.
- International business courses - Four core courses cover the fundamentals of international business and the international dimensions of management, marketing and finance. Also, students choose three electives from a long list of possible choices. Students have the option to cluster these electives to concentrate on a topic such as "Global Logistics" or a region such as "North America."
- Foreign language courses - Students must complete a modern language through the advanced level. Students are encouraged to continue their language courses in order to take advantage of our study abroad opportunities or to earn a dual major.
- International experiences – Those who work in international business need to travel, and crossing international borders can sometimes be a daunting activity. The International Business program requires of all students to gain some type of travel experience. The requirement is easy to fulfill through class-sponsored field trips to Canada, short study tours consisting of three-week international business seminars, two-week European Union simulations and four-week immersion programs in Mexico; and the college's study-abroad program.
