Canisius College's intramural philosophy is based upon the concept that the college is concerned for the total well being of all students, faculty and staff.

Intramural sports are a way to escape from the daily rigor and stress of classes and are an integral part of campus life.  They give students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to come together for competition and camaraderie.  A wide variety of sports are offered to meet the different needs of the academic community.  Canisius' program includes team and individual sports activities for male, female and co-recreational activities.

The IM staff invites you to get involved and be part of the action.  Our program is organized to provide participants the opportunity to:

  • Improve and maintain health and physical fitness through participation in satisfying recreational activities.
  • Make social contacts and build friendships that can enrich the College experience.
  • Allow for the development of sport knowledge and strategies through participation in a competitive situation.
  • Provide opportunities for every individual regardless of ability to experience voluntary participation and to have fun.
  • Provide opportunities for the development of positive attitudes toward recreational activity.
  • Encourage sportsmanship and fair play.
  • Provide alternative outlets from the rigors of academic work.
Participation in the Intramural program is voluntary. Injuries and their resulting costs are the responsibility of the participant. Each participant is advised to carry personal health and accident insurance.

Canisius College's Intramural Sports Program is coordinated by the Intramural Director and Graduate Assistant within the Department of Student Affairs.  The College is an institutional member of NIRSA, the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association.
