Mandatory International New Student Orientation

Fall 2012 Orientation:

All new international and exchange students arriving for the Fall 2012 semester must attend a mandatory orientation session beginning Sunday, August 19, 2012. Students should plan to arrive to Canisius on either Friday, August 17, 2012 or Saturday, August 18, 2012. Orientation will officially begin on Sunday, August 19, 2012 and runs until Friday, August 24, 2012. Your orientation schedule will be given to you upon arrival. It is imperative that you arrive by this time in order to ensure that you are well rested for language proficiency testing, which is part of Orientation. Orientation includes a mixture of academic sessions and social events, to ensure that you are acquainted with the college, the local community, our academic structure, and other students here at Canisius.

Arrival to Campus:

Once you make your travel arrangements to arrive to Canisius, you should email our office with your arrival information. We will be sending you a Pre-Arrival Guide with important arrival information. It would be a good idea to print a copy of this out and bring it with you on your trip. As a service for our new international and exchange students, we arrange to have a staff member pick you up from the airport, train station, or bus terminal in Buffalo, if you will need a ride to campus for Orientation. It is important that you email this information in advance, so that we can prepare the pick-up schedule. Please email this to ispmail@canisius.edu as soon as your flight is booked. You should schedule your flight to arrive to Buffalo on either Friday, August 17, 2012 or Saturday, August 18, 2012. Please note that if you plan to arrive to campus prior to Friday, August 17, 2012 you will be responsible for transportation and your own lodging in a local hotel.

Meals During Orientation:

A one time $350 orientation fee will be charged to your student bill, which will cover meals and activities during the orientation program (Friday, August 17, 2012 - Thursday, August 23, 2012). You will be responsible for your own meals from Friday, August 24th, onwards. As part of the orientation schedule, you will have the opportunity to go grocery shopping at a local supermarket. Housing:

If you will be living on-campus for the Fall semester, you will be permitted to move directly into your housing assignment as long as you do not arrive prior to Friday, August 17th. You will be notified of your housing assignment via email, prior to your arrival to Canisius.
