


University of the Sacred Heart
The University of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic, private, non-profit coeducational institution founded in the nineteenth century. Since 1950 it has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and locally by the Puerto Rico Council on Higher Education. In 1972 it became coeducational. Since the early 1990s, undergraduate enrollment of about 5,000 has remained constant since the college promotes a more personalized education for the students.
The university offers a broad range of courses in the fields of business administartion, communication, education, humanities, natural and social sciences. All classes are taught in Spanish. Visiting students may select from the following:Intermediate And High Intermediate

Located in Santurce, the commercial and cultural district of the City of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Santurce is home to the Centro de Bellas Artes, one of the island's most important centers for the performing arts. There are also two extraordinary museums, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico and Museo de Arte Contemporaneo.
The institution lies on a 33-acre green pocket with early 20th century buildings in the Heart of San Juan's metropolitan area. The University is where one can visit 16th century forts, buildings, and also find interesting art galleries, arts and crafts shops, restaurants and cafes. It is also close to long streches of beach ideal for relaxation. The island of Puerto Rico enjoys tropical marine climate with an average temperature of 82 degrees forenhight from November to May. The average beach temperatures are 90 degrees forenheight during the summer. The official language of Puerto Rico is Spanish, but English is widely spoken everywhere.Accommodations
The University has 2 residence halls that include furnished double occupancy rooms and common area lounges. Kitchen, living room and bathroom facilities are shared among students on the same floor. Students may prepare their own meals or eat at the cafeteria. Laundry, computer rooms and snack machines are also available. The residence halls have 24-hour security.Transportation and Currency
Students can move around on public transportation in the metropolitan area. Local and Island-wide bus transportation is available as well as taxis and an urban train system.
As a commonwealth of the United States, Puerto Rico uses the dollar, often referred to as peso.Arrival in Puerto Rico
Students should fly directly to San Juan's Luis Muñoz Airport. If notice of arrival is provided in advance, the coordinator of the Exchange Program will pick the student up. Otherwise, a taxi service from the airport to the University is available for approximately $20.
Eligibility & Admission
Students who have completed three semesters of college-level study are eligible for the program. A cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale is required.
