Uppsala University
Uppsala is located 70 km (45 miles) north of Stockholm and is the fourth largest city in Sweden.  The landscape of Uppland, the province in which Uppsala is located, is decorated with beautiful fields, forests and lakes.  The city also offers great opportunities for walking, hiking, and bike riding.

Rich with history, Uppsala has been the religious center of Sweden since the 13th century. Old Uppsala (Gamla Uppsala) was the focal point of the Kingdom of the Swedes.  Traces left by the Viking forefathers can still be seen at Gamla Uppsala.  Uppsala is currently the seat of the archbishop of the Church of Sweden.  The dominating landmarks in Uppsala are the large cathedral (Domkyran) and the castle (Slotter), both located in the center of town.

The SLU campus is located outside the town, while the department buildings of Uppsala University are spread throughout the town.  Study abroad students take courses in English mainly in the area of business.  Students also have the option to take beginner’s Swedish.  For a complete listing of courses, visit www.uadm.uu.se/inter/education

Housing:
Uppsala University will assist Canisius students in finding accommodations.  If you want a room to be reserved for you, you will have to submit the Housing Application Form which you will receive with your admission documents.  Please note that you will not receive your Uppsala address before your arrival.

Your rent includes electricity, water, as well as the use of a kitchen and washing machine.  All rooms have internet connections (but no computers).  You should also note that your room must be cancelled at least one calendar month before your departure to avoid paying an extra month's rent.

Student housing is usually owned by separate companies, like Studentstaden AB, or by the Student Nations.  The University owns no housing.  Rooms are furnished with a bed and mattress, desk, chairs, and a bookcase.
