ANGEL FAQ

End-of-Semester: Back up your data
Two (2) weeks after grades are due, ITS will automatically disable student access to your courses. Twelve (12) months later, ITS will delete the course along with all of the content and records. It is your responsibility to archive your ANGEL course. ANGEL makes it very easy to do. ITS recommends printing out your grade book, and creating an archive of your course, which can be saved on your H: drive.

Archiving your course is simple...

  1. Log into your ANGEL course, and go to the "Manage" tab.
  2. Click "Export Wizard."
  3. Click "ANGEL Archive."
  4. Leave all of the boxes checked, and click "Submit."
  5. Once the export is complete, click "Download File," and save the file to your H: drive.

My List of ANGEL Courses is Getting Long. What Can I Do?
Although your students will not see Unavailable courses, you will. Because you can still see your activated and deactivated courses, your list of courses may grow long. However you can "hide" courses from previous semester quite easily. Simply click the "-" icon next to the semester name to collapse all of the courses for a given semester. To make them visible again, click the "+" icon next to the semester to expand the list.

Beginning of Semester: Make Courses Available
You may be aware that all instructors and all courses that are offered at Canisius are automatically set up in ANGEL before the semester begins. For the Spring 2008 semester the courses are set to be Disabled to anyone but the instructor. When you are ready, you should make your course enabled to your students using the Manage tab:

  1. From the manage tab, click "General Course Settings."
  2. Change Member Access, from "Editors Only" to "All Members."
  3. Click "Save."

What Happens to My ANGEL Courses When the Semester Ends?
All ANGEL courses will be automatically disabled two weeks after grades are due. At that point, instructors still have access to the course and its content, but students are prevented from accessing it. After 12 months, the course and all of its contents will be deleted from ANGEL. It is the responsibility of the instructor to archive the contents of the course prior to its deletion.

Instructors can easily copy content from one semester to the next in ANGEL. To do this...

  1. Go to the new course in ANGEL.
  2. Go to the "Manage" tab.
  3. Click "Import Wizard."
  4. Click "Copy Course."
  5. Select the source course from the pull-down menu and click "Import."

How Can I Handle Multiple or Cross-Referenced Sections?
If you are teaching multiple sections of a course, or a course which is cross-referenced with two CRNs, you may find it easier to maintain only one ANGEL course site. In this case, please use the contact information at the top of this page to make arrangements.

Will Students Automatically Be Able to Access My Course?
ANGEL will begin populating courses when registration begins and continues to update hourly until a week after grades are due. Therefore, if faculty make their courses available, students will be able to see it as soon as it is enabled.

NOTE: All students who are registered for your class will be able to access your course as soon as you enable it.

May I Add Students/Instructors to My ANGEL Course?
Typically, ANGEL will keep course rosters up-to-date, as it updates against Banner hourly. However, instructors can still manually add individuals to their course. This is done via the "Manage" tab in your course.

  1. From the manage tab, click "Roster."
  2. In the menu bar, click "Add a user."
  3. Search for the person you wish to add. We recommend searching by last name. If your search returns no results, contact the FacTS Center for assistance.
  4. Click "Select" next to the person you wish to add.
  5. You can modify the rights as necessary.
  6. Click "Save" when finished.

How Can I Remove Students Who Have Dropped My Course?
The drop process is now handled automatically by ANGEL. If you have manually added a user, however, you will have manually have to delete that user. This is done from the "Manage" tab.

  1. Click on "Roster."
  2. Find the person you wish to delete, and click "Delete."
  3. When asked to confirm, click "Delete" again.

What Username and Password Should Students Use for ANGEL?
For all students, ANGEL usernames will be identical to Canisius e-mail usernames. Students can find out their username, if they don't know it, by clicking on Campus Directory on our homepage, and accessing the campus E-mail directory.

What E-mail Address is Listed for My Students in ANGEL?
When students are initially set up in ANGEL, their e-mail address is set to their Canisius e-mail address. Students who either have never used ANGEL, or who have not changed their own ANGEL e-mail address, will continue have their Canisius e-mail address as their default e-mail address. If students prefer to use another e-mail account for ANGEL, they should make that change for themselves in the "System Settings" section of ANGEL, accessible by clicking the wrench icon in the Power Strip.

Returning students who have changed their ANGEL e-mail address in previous semesters will continue to receive their course e-mail at that changed address.

Will There be ANGEL Workshops?
Workshops will be held throughout the Spring semester. See schedule above and call CTE at x3720 to register.
