responsible computing

If you will be living in campus housing or bringing your laptop on campus, you MUST complete the following items BEFORE you attempt to connect to the network!

Check your computer's Operating System
Your computer's OS must meet the minimum requirements to connect to the Canisius network (Click here for more information)

Ensure your computer's Operating System is up to date
Your Windows or Macintosh operating system, when updated properly, will be able to communicate with our network.

Run an Anti-Virus Scan
You MUST run up-to-date Anti-Virus software. If you are a currently-enrolled Canisius College student and you have a Windows PC computer, you are entitled to install and run our distribution of ESET AntiVirus on one (1) personal computer owned by you, as part of the College's license agreement with ESET.  You must uninstall any other AntiVirus programs before installing ESET.  Contact the ITS Help Desk at x2299 for more information.

Turn on firewall
A firewall helps protect your computer from outside intrusions. Some operating systems have an integrated firewall which can be enabled. If yours doesn't, you may want to purchase a third party firewall. (Click here for more information)

Remove Spyware
Web surfing is fun, but it's easy to inadvertently click a page that activates a "deposit" on your computer that affects its performance and may prevent you from connecting to our network. (Click here for more information about removing spyware from your computer)

Bring your original CDs with you
Your computer came with a set of CDs containing your Operating System, application software and hardware drivers. Bring these CDs to campus with you in case they are needed.
