To prevent unauthorized access to your internet-connected computer, enable a firewall:

Windows XP users:

1. Click on the Start menu and choose the Control Panel

2. Choose Network and Internet Connections

3. Choose Network Connections

4. Right-click on your network connection and choose Properties

5. On the Advanced tab, check mark "Protect my computer..."

Windows Vista users:

1. Click on the Start menu and choose the Control Panel

2. Choose Security

3. Turn on the Firewall, if it isn't already

Macintosh users:

1. Click on the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of the screen and select "System Preferences"

2. Click on the Sharing icon

3. Make sure that none of the check-boxes under "Services" are selected
