Computer AccountsYou received a username and password with your acceptance letter to the college. The same username and password that you used to make your online deposit will be used for all of your computer accounts at Canisius. If you do not remember your username and/or password, click on
this link and follow the instructions.
By using your computer account, you are agreeing to abide by the Acceptable Use Policy, which can be
found here.
Storage DevicesAny work saved to the local hard drive of any lab computers WILL BE LOST. ITS recommends that you purchase a USB Flash Drive (also known as Pen Drives or Jump Drives) for the saving and transporting of work.
ITS also recommends that you keep a backup of your work. There are 2 types of drives: Those that have failed, and those that have not failed yet.
Computer Purchases - Hardware
Almost any computer on the market today is fine. The choice to purchase a Mac or a Windows machine is a personal one that you have to make; Canisius supports both.

Computer Purchases – SoftwareAt the very least you will want to purchase Word Processing software for your computer. Canisius College uses the Microsoft Office suite of programs. Starting in Fall 2008 semester, the Windows lab machines will be running Office 2007, and the Macintosh lab machines will be running Office 2008.
Software can be purchased at academic discounts though the
bookstore’s website.
Additional information for Resident Students:PhoneTo take advantage of telephone service in your room, you will need to bring with you a touch-tone telephone and a telephone line cord. All of your local calls are included in your room rate; your long distance calls are not.
TelevisionTo take advantage of television service, you need to bring with you a cable ready television set and a coax cable. You can find the channel line-up at
this link InternetTo take advantage of Internet access, you will need to bring your computer. While there is wireless available in the residence halls, ITS recommends that you bring a CAT 5 or CAT 6 compliant Ethernet cable (this cable should be a “straight-through” cable, not a “cross-over” or “flip” cable). You will have a faster connection through the use of a cable than over the wireless.
You will need to register your computer for use on the campus network. After connecting your computer in the Residence Halls, simply follow the
on-screen instructions.
Please make sure that you have Windows Updates installed, and that you are running up-to-date antivirus software.
Gaming devicesYou may register your gaming devices on the network, however ITS is unable to provide support for them. You can
register your device here. Please note that you must be on campus to do this.
