News from ITS for Fall 2009ANGEL NewsAs in the past, all courses offered this fall have been set up in ANGEL, our Learning Management System, and are available for faculty to add their syllabus, course content and calendar.
Current course enrollments from Banner are reflected in Angel.
Adds and
Drops that are processed in Banner are also reflected, usually within hours, without any additional faculty intervention.
All ANGEL courses are
date-enabled.
That is, courses will be viewable by enrolled students on the Friday before the first day of classes - August 21st.
Faculty who do not want students to see their courses that early will need to access “General Course Settings” on the
Manage tab and change the start date.
Multiple sections of courses or cross-listed courses can be merged into one course section in ANGEL, making it easier to manage. Contact the
FacTS Center staff who will merge the sections for you.
ANGEL workshops will be held throughout the Fall semester.
Click on the “Angel Training for Faculty and Staff” on the
Angel login page for schedule and registration information.
Google E-mail for Students
Canisius College will be outsourcing its student email to Google's gmail for all incoming Canisius students. In addition, returning students will be urged to "opt-in" to GMail. This service provides significant benefits, including more storage space and the option of a Canisius email address when they become alumni. In addition, each student using gmail will have a personal start page. On campus, the email addresses of students will still look the same; i.e., username@canisius.edu.
By summer 2010, all students will be provisioned with Google mail.
Angel email will still work the same; messages sent to a class in Angel will be delivered to Angel and, in addition, to the students’ Canisius email address. Class listprocs can also still be used for class email.
Class ListprocsSending email to your class in ANGEL is easy and a good method of communication. However, sometimes it is convenient to use the class listprocs. These listprocs for Fall courses have been setup and populated. Faculty can begin sending email to them immediately. When sending a class message, you should address the email to:
ssss###ttt@canisius.edu where:
SSSS = max 4 letter subject
### = max 3 digit course number
ttt = max 3 alphanumeric section
For example, to send a message to all the students in ACC101A the email address is
acc101a@canisius.edu.
