Welcome to the Canisius College Residence Halls! ResNet is the suite of services that is available to our resident students. Please continue reading to learn more about telephone service, television service, and computer network access. To see a labelled picture of your room's phone/ethernet jack, click here.
Telephone Service
Students must opt in if they want a landline telephone service in their room. An administration fee of $25.00/semester is required. Included in the service are: Unlimited local calling, a direct inward dial telephone number (DID – your telephone number people off campus can call you on), a phonemail box, and the availability of 4 digit dialing to other campus telephones. Students need to supply their own analog telephone, telephone line cord (RJ 11) and a calling card for long distance calling. There is normally a 2 business day installation time once the application has been received. Only online credit card payment is accepted for the administration fee.
You are able to opt in for landline telephone service by clicking here. Supplying the telephone jack number will help speed the installation. After activation, you can find instructions on dialing and voicemail here.
Lounge/common telephones provide on campus, emergency (711) and toll free calling.
If you have a concern about cell phone coverage on campus, please call the ITS Help Desk – (716)888-2299 or email helpdesk@canisius.edu.
Television Service
To take advantage of the television service, you will need to bring with you a cable-ready television set and a coaxial cable. There is one coax outlet per room, however you may use a splitter if you would like to connect a second television. Television FAQs and problems can be addressed here. Television programming for all residence halls (with the exception of Campion) is provided by Direct TV. For channel lineup and program listings, click here.
If you live in Campion, your programming is provided by Time Warner Cable. To view your channel lineup and program listings, click here.
DVR’s – we have found the TiVo to be compatible with the campus network, however they are not supported. You will need the device's MAC address to register on the campus network. For information on configuring your TiVo unit see tivo.com.
Data Service
Both wired and wireless network connectivity are provided in the residence halls. Even though wireless is available, ITS strongly recommends that you bring a CAT 5 or CAT 6 compliant network cable in order to optimize your connection. Please be sure your Ethernet cable is a “straight-through” cable, not a “flip” or “cross-over” cable.
You will have to register your computer the first time you connect to the network. Simply open your web browser and follow the on-screen instructions.
In order to keep your computer running smoothly, make sure that you keep up-to-date on all security patches and run anti-virus software. Currently enrolled Canisius College students are entitled to install and run our distribution of ESET Anti-Virus on one (1) personal computer owned by you. You must uninstall any other Anti-Virus program before installing ESET. Contact the Help Desk for more information.
If at any point your computer becomes infected with a virus or worm, ITS will disconnect your computer from the campus network. This is to help prevent the spread of malicious software to other computers on the campus network. Once we have verified that your computer has been successfully cleaned, it will be able to access the network again.
Printing
Networked laserjet printers are available in the residence hall labs (Palisano, Delavan, Village Townhouse Community Center, and Campion Intercultural Living Center), and run off the same print management as the printers on the main campus. You can find more information on the printing solution here.
We can not support wireless printing in the residence halls. Please consider this if purchasing your own printer.
Gaming Devices
Xbox’s, Wii’s, PS 3’s, etc are allowed on the campus network, however they are not supported. Your gaming device must be registered before access is allowed.
To register your gaming console, click here.
