Canisius CEO Wins National Competition

BUFFALO, NY ― The Canisius College chapter of the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization (CEO) won two awards at the 2013 CEO National Conference and Competition that took place in Chicago, IL, from October 31 – November 2. The Canisius chapter competed against more than 400 colleges and universities to win these coveted awards.

The Canisius team won the CEO Best Chapter Award in the Marketing Plan category. Canisius’ marketing plan submission was developed by Stephen Grimm ’14, a marketing and finance major at Canisius.

Ji-Hee Kim, PhD, director and associate professor of entrepreneurship in the Department of Management, won first place in the CEO Best Chapter Advisor category. Nominated by her students, this is the third time Kim has received this award. She was also recognized in 2008 and 2011.

A total of 11 Canisius students attended the CEO National Conference and Competition. They were all extensively involved in the program. Students led three panels: Kathryn Turner ’16 and Stephen Grimm ’14 led a session on “Creating Connections: Ways to Interact Cross-Campus and Within Your Local Community.” Nobel Daniel ’15 and Samuel Garofano ’14 led “Pitch Competition on Your Campus.” Kevin Walsh ’14 and Josh Leonardo ’14 led “Getting the Word Out: Successful Entrepreneurial Events.” Steve Codd ’15, the 2013 Empire Creativity Competition Champion at Canisius College, participated in a national “elevator pitch” competition that included more than 80 campus champions from North America.

CEO is a global, non-profit organization, which offers students networking opportunities and serves as an information resource for prospective entrepreneurs. The Canisius College chapter of CEO was established by Ji-Hee Kim in January 2007. The chapter offers student members the opportunity to develop entrepreneurial leadership, professional communication skills, successful team building and team-work skills, and knowledge in entrepreneurship by creating, designing, planning, leading, organizing and implementing educational outreach and experiential entrepreneurship projects. The Canisius CEO chapter is supported by the business men and women of the Entrepreneurs on Campus group.
