All marketing majors are encouraged to attain real world experience through an internship. Canisius interns have an excellent reputation and many obtain their first job offers as a result of their internship. The internship can be combined with the study abroad experience, an opportunity that is increasingly appealing in the rapidly expanding global economy.
The Marketing Society holds monthly meetings during which speakers from local businesses talk about various aspects of marketing. Each semester, they participate in a day-in-the-field with the Buffalo chapter of the Sales and Marketing Executives group. Five students from Canisius are selected to participate in this day-long event. The highlight of the year is participation in the National Collegiate Conference of the
American Marketing Association (AMA) in New Orleans each April.
The Canisius Chapter of AMA was recognized by the national organization when it received the Chapter Performance Award at the 2008 conference. Eleven Canisius students attended the event.
The award is presented to AMA chapters that demonstrate exemplary performance during an academic year. Specifically, the Canisius AMA Chapter increased its number of active members, hosted monthly presentations that featured marketing experts, and organized and participated in tours of marketing departments at several local businesses. The AMA named the Canisius chapter “one of the most proficient collegiate chapters in the nation.” Read more
