Master of Science in Childhood Education Degree Program

The program in childhood education is designed for candidates with bachelor's degrees who seek initial teacher certification in grades 1-6.  The program leads to New York State certification and a master of science in education degree.

To meet program prerequisites (PDF), candidates must successfully complete three credit hours (a one semester course) at the college/university level in each of the following areas: English, science, and social studies. Candidates must also complete three (3) credit hours (one half year course) in a language other than English and mathematics.

Since all courses are taught at the graduate level, once certification requirements are complete, only one additional course (3 credits) is needed to complete the Master of Education Degree. The course may be taken during the final semester of student teaching, if desired. The additional course may also be taken during a different term if preferred.
