Master of Science in Educational Leadership and Supervision Program

Serving as a PK-12 leader within a school organization is one of the most demanding and rewarding careers. As a PK-12 school leader, one has the opportunity to shape the lives of learners of all ages. Students in the master's degree program in educational leadership are expected to enroll with not only the desire to be a leader, but also possess a rich history of excellence as an educator.

The Canisius College Educational Leadership Programs are designed to assist students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and dispositions essential to a successful career as a PK-12 school leader.  The programs lead to a New York State School Building Leader (SBL) certificate and/or a School District Leader (SDL) certificate.  Both programs are certified by the New York State Education Department and follow the standards established by the Educational Leadership Constituent Council (ELCC).

The SBL and SDL portions of the program are offered both on-campus and online.  For more informaton about the on-line graduate educational administration program, visit the program home page.

While New York does not require a second master's degree for the SBL or SDL certificates, many students elect to continue their graduate work to earn a second master's degree.

Most courses on-campus are taught Monday-Thursday evenings, 4:15-6:45 or 7:00-9:30.  On-line courses do not have scheduled meeting times.  You may start either program in the fall (late August), spring (mid-January) or summer. The summer consists of five week sessions from late May-June or late June-July. One week "mini-sessions" are offered on-campus in August.
