Prerequisites for Physical Education Certification:

Six credits from the following: PED 207
Dance and Gymnastics (3), PED 203 Net,Target, and Fitness Activities (3), or PED 204 Invasion Games (3)

HED 337 Excercise Principles

BIO 114 Human Biology:Intro to Human Anat. & Phys. w/lab

HHP 235 Kinesiology (Prerequisite: BIO 114)

HED 321 Lifeguard, CPR, First Aid, Water Safety (US Students) or Health Elective (Canadian Students)

Three credit hours in foriegn language are also required.

PEG 505  Cooperative Activities and Outdoor Curriculum

PEG 511  Movement Education and Elementary Activities
(includes 50 hrs. of field experience for US students)  Pre/Corequisite: PEG 571

PEG 541b Teaching Methods in Physical Education
(includes 50 hours of field experience for US students)  Prerequisite: PEG 511

PEG 554   Adapted Physical Education

PEG 560  Human Growth and Motor Development

PEG 571  Assessment in Physical Education

PEG 572  Seminar in Teaching PE/Health (includes 100 hrs of field experience for Candadian students)

 
PEG 580  Concepts in Teaching Sport Skills

PEG 593  Student Teaching. Two seven week placements: Childhood grades 1-6 and Adolescence grades 7-12

PEG 594  Student Teaching Seminar
EDU 595  Child Abuse Seminar
EDU 596  Prevention of School Violence Seminar

The following items are also required for New York State certification:

  • LAST - Liberal Arts and Science Test
  • ATS-W - Assessment of Teaching Skills - Written
  • CST - Content Specialty Test
  • Fingerprinting
Additional Three Courses Required for Master of Science Degree in Physical Education:

PEG 680  Research Methods in Health & Physical Education 

PEG 584  Capstone in Teaching Physical Education  

Elective - any PEG or graduate education elective
