The next day, they met with a representative from the Columbus Crew and toured Crew Stadium, where they learned about the overall fan experience as well as witnessed that experience from the stands. On the last day of the weekend, our students networked with important people in the Columbus Blue Jackets organization, including Larry Hoepfner (Executive VP of Business Operations) and Cheryl Sparks (Director of Human Resources), as well as several others, where they received some great advice on the field and insight into the business of running an NHL team. The Convention also serves as a meeting place for a scholarly colloquium on prevalent issues in the NCAA, as well as the NCAA Trade Show, and all of these opportunities afforded our MSA students a chance to network professionally with others in intercollegiate athletics. Our five students had an enjoyable experience, as they met with athletic directors and others in college sport in San Antonio, and attended informational sessions on topics such as sports betting, the role social media can play in intercollegiate sport, and amateurism/eligibility topics. They took them on a tour around campus: visiting the library, various classrooms and dorm buildings, and ended the tour in the cafeteria where each of the students ate lunch. After that, they brought the students to the Koessler Athletic Center where they had the opportunity to see the women's basketball locker room and visit with a few of the players.
