Depending on which Instructional Technology Classroom (ITC) you use at Canisius, you may not find a traditional overhead projector. Instead, there may be a device near the instructor's lectern, known as a document camera.
Document cameras (also called visual presenters) replace the need for overhead projectors in todays classrooms. Not only can they be used for showing transparencies, they also allow for the display of non-transparent three dimensional objects.
Initially, the image quality of document cameras was somewhat limited, but thanks to the continuing development of digital technologies, newer document cameras can display sharp, crisp images that are easy on the eyes of a student audience.
The Media Center has been installing more document cameras in classrooms each year here at Canisius. Currently, the college has over 30 ITCs that are equipped with a document camera.
The potential for use of this piece of technology is only as limited as the imagination of our faculty. Some example applications include:
Animal dissection
Art class/Art appreciation
Demonstrating how to use a piece of equipment
Chemistry experiments
Graphing calculator
Magazine articles
Maps
Mechanical drawing instruction
Posting homework assignments
Reading instructions
Reviewing homework assignments
Test questions
Textbook material
As mentioned, theres not just one make/model of document camera at Canisius. Please read on to find out what room has what type of document camera. Using the drop down menus below will bring up a page that lists the features and operating procedures for the selected model.
