Prayer for Peace

C: Congregation
L: Leader

C: O God, we members of the Canisius Jesuit Community desire to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ.  We desire to be joyful companions with our brother Jesuits and colleagues.  We desire to think and act with our Church.  Hear now our prayers for peace:

L: John Paul II wrote, “Peace is possible.  Peace is a duty.”
C: God help us to believe peace is truly possible in our lives.

L: The Psalmist’s prayers of gratitude for the world invite us to see our world in this same light.
C: God give us discerning minds and grateful hearts to live in our own world.

L: Isaiah teaches, “Beat your swords into plowshares.”
C: God help our nations and all the world’s nations to labor for peace.

L: Our Catechism teaches us Christian prayer extends to the forgiveness of enemies, transfiguring the disciple by configuring us to our Master.
C: God make us more like your Son Jesus who calls us to love our enemies and do good to those who hate us.

L: Matthew’s Gospel teaches us to be reconciled before we approach the altar of God.
C: God help us to forgive and accept forgiveness from our brothers and sisters.

L: Ignatius once laid down his sword at the altar of Montserrat.
C: God inspire us to live and witness for peace.

L: Paul VI advised us, “There is no peace without justice.”
C: God teach us and our institutions to understand and support economic justice for all.

L: Peter Canisius was renown for his humility, diplomacy, and abilities to reconcile disputing factions.
C: God give us the wisdom and grace you gave Peter to work for reconciliation and peace.

L: St. Ann’s, St. Michael’s, St. Augustine and St. Monica’s Scholars Programs, Canisius High School, and Canisius College were founded to serve the needy and immigrants.
C: God help us welcome, heal, and teach your youth and adults who come to us from all nations and walks of life.

L: Benedict XVI has called for a worldwide ban on torture, “an intolerable violation of human rights.”
C: God strengthen our commitment to stand with institutions and citizens against all forms of torture and coercion.

L: Our US bishops declare, “Domestic violence against any person is contrary to Jesus’ gospel message.”
C: God help our society, especially our City of Buffalo bring an end to domestic violence.

L: Buffalo streets are dotted with signs inviting us to leave peaceprints.
C: God help us to walk this world in peace.

C: We pray this and all our prayers through your Son our Savior Jesus Christ.  Amen.
