Eileen M. Angelini, Professor of French, received her B.A. in French from Middlebury College and her M.A. and PhD in French Studies from Brown University. She is the co-recipient with Jane C. Judge (Class of 2007) of the 2008 NYSAFLT Anthony J. Papalia Award for an outstanding article in a state or national foreign language education publication, a 2008 International Council for Canadian Studies Library Support Program Grant, the 2008 AATF Dorothy Ludwig National Award for Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the University Level and the 2007 NYSAFLT Ruth E. Wasley Distinguished Teacher Award Post-Secondary. Recently, she was named a recipient of a 2010-2011 Canada-U.S. Fulbright Award as a Visiting Research Chair in Globalization and Cultural Studies at McMaster University (Hamilton, ON).

Peter Böhm, Associate Professor of German, received his Magister Artium and Dr. Phil. degrees in Philosophy and German Literature from the Julius Maximilian Universität Würzburg in Germany. Dr. Böhm’s research interests lie in the field of philosophy, primarily the philosophy of the classical era, the age of enlightenment, the philosophy of Jewish philosophers of German descent, as well as political philosophy. Dr. Böhm has authored a book on the German-Jewish philosopher Theodor Lessing, and has to his credit several articles in the areas of aesthetical theory (Karl Philipp Moritz) and metaphysical theory (Alfred North Whitehead). Currently, his research revolves around the “Collapse of the Enlightenment” during the Nazi era; his next project will see him delve into the Moses Mendelssohn – Johann Caspar Lavater controversy. Together with his colleague Dr. Larry Jones of the Department of History at Canisius, Dr. Böhm held a "Peter Canisius Distinguished Professorship" on "The Holocaust in History, Literature and Film" between 2005 and 2008.

An article authored by James is included in the newly published book New Interpretations in the History of French Literature: from Marie de France to Beckett and Cioran by Aleksandra Grusznka (The Edwin Mellon Press, 2008). James’ article, entitled “Portrait d’une orientaliste ‘aventureuse:’ Alexandra David-Neel, 1868-1969,” is on pages 167-192 of the book. In addition, James’ article “Raymond Federman: un auteur bilingue meconnu a decouvir” was published in the book LitteRealite (University New York Publications) Vol. XVIII, No. 1. pp. 68-73.

Margaret Stefanski, Associate Professor of Spanish and Chair of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures, received her M.A. degree in Spanish Philology from the University of Warsaw, Poland and her Ph.D. from SUNY at Buffalo. Her research focuses on Spanish Peninsular Literature, interdisciplinary connections between verbal and visual arts, and pedagogy of teaching languages. Currently, Dr. Stefanski writes and presents on Spanish and Hispanic short short fiction or microfiction, which enables her to integrate several aspects of the high/low postmodern culture in her research and teachings. She is also founder and organizer of the annual Polish Film Showcase, under the auspices of the Permanent Chair of Polish Culture at Canisius College.

Julia Wescott, Professor of Spanish, received her A.B. and A.M. from Brown University, and her PhD from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. She was the co-recipient with Dr. Coral Snodgrass (Canisius College, Wehle School of Business) of an Oishei Teaching Fellowship in 1999-02 and of a Peter Canisius Teaching Fellowship in 2003-06. She has established study abroad programs in Oviedo (Spain) and with Dr. Snodgrass, in Morelia (Mexico). She has published articles on modern Spanish literature. Her interests lie in the above-mentioned areas as well as in immigration issues, Mexican crafts, local Latino issues, and also in the juncture of the study of Spanish in relationship to other fields, such as entrepreneurship and international business. She is currently working with Ji-Hee Kim, PhD (Canisius College, Department of Entrepreneurship), and is in year two of a Coleman Foundation Fellowship.

Richard Reitsma, PhD, Assistant Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies, received his M.A. from Purdue University, his Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, and studied abroad in Cuba, Mexico, and France. His doctoral research focused on issues of gender, sexuality, and race in plantation literature of the American South, Cuba and Puerto Rico. At Canisius, Richard teaches Spanish, Latin American Studies, and Honors courses. A longtime judge for the Lambda Literary Awards, his current research concentrates on gender and minority representation in literature and film of the American South, U.S. Latinos, and Latin America. He is currently co-editing, along with Townes Coates, an anthology of essays entitled No Perfect Witness: Being Gay, Talking God, and Fighting Back. Recent research and publications include an examination of messages of diversity and tolerance in children’s animated movies, an exploration of the tensions between sexuality and ethnic identity in Latino film, and “Lethal Latin Lovers: Sex and Death in Latin American Cinema.”
Prior to coming to Canisius, Reitsma taught Latin American Studies at The Johns Hopkins University; Spanish and Latin American Studies at Gettysburg College; and Literature of the Americas at The College of William and Mary.
