The $3.4 million Montante Cultural Center renovation was designed by Cannon Design of Grand Island, NY and took just over a year to complete. The project included:
- Complete refurbishment of the building's exterior. The sandstone and limestone blocks outside and the bricks and tile inside were power cleaned, exposing fine mosaics and other colorful details. The stained glass windows were also carefully preserved.
- Addition of new landscaping.
- Addition of new lighting and acoustical systems.
- Installation of flexible seating. Structural steel was brought in to create the balcony with its 100 tiered seats.
- Updating of plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning systems.
- Installation of a professional stage and sound system. The marble altar and baldachino were removed and the stage was installed in their place. New carpeting was installed.
Extreme care and attention to detail ensured the preservation of the original splendor of the church, while providing the necessary updates. The Carol and Carl Montante Cultural Center was formally dedicated on October 23, 2000.
