Mayor Anthony Masiello '69 and State Senator Dale Volker '63 were among more than 50 guests who joined Father Vincent M. Cooke, S.J. for the dedication of phase one of the Delavan Townhouses last Friday.
"The Delavan Townhouses represent Canisius College's latest investment in the city of Buffalo," said Father Cooke. "Not only will the townhouses provide Canisius with the much-needed, high quality residence space for our growing student population but we also hope that the project will spur other investments in the Lafayette Avenue and Linwood-Oxford neighborhood.

During the ceremony Father Cooke recognized the 121st Cavalry, New York Guard that trained and operated from the Delavan Armory. He then unveiled a plaque that will be erected in the townhouses in honor of the Mounted Troops of the 121st Cavalry. Following Father Cooke's remarks, Stan Davis, president of the Buffalo Cavalry Association named everyone at the ceremony as honorary members of the 121st Cavalry. Following the formal dedication, guests were invited to take tours of the college's newest residence hall.
The first phase of the Delavan Townhouses included 196 beds in three, four and five single bedroom apartments. A typical four-bedroom apartment consists of four single bedrooms, two full baths, kitchen and living room. The complex also includes a 7,000 square foot community center with study spaces, lounges, meeting rooms, laundry facilities and offices. The second phase of the project will add another 130 beds in two buildings fronting on Harvard Place and is scheduled for completion in August 2002.
