Canisius Care Update
New IRS regulations extend the deadline date for submitting your 2005 Medical and Dependent Care claims.  Services received through March 15, 2006 can be applied to 2005 account balances.

For example, if you have $300 left in your Canisius Care Account at the end of December 2005 and you elect $500 for 2006, you purchase glasses and prescriptions totaling $500 in February 2006, you may submit the claim and receive $300 from your 2005 balance.  The remaining $200 that was not covered by 2005 funds will be reimbursed out of your 2006 funds, leaving a balance of $300 to use for expenses incurred in 2006.  Don’t forget that most over-the- counter drugs can be reimbursed if treating an illness. 

The new deadline for submitting 2005 claims is April 20, 2006.

2006 Pension Contribution Limits
TIAA-CREF open enrollment is the perfect time to change your contribution level by completing a new salary reduction agreement in the Human Resources Department.  Your contributions are made with tax deferred dollars and grow tax deferred until you retire.  Participants in the Canisius College retirement plan have the opportunity to change their contribution levels four times in a calendar year.  The new maximum contribution level for 2006 is $15,000, $20,000 for those age 50 and over and $23,000 for those at Canisius College for 15 years or more who have not yet exhausted that extra opportunity. Life Event: Name Change
Perhaps you have had a name change recently due to marriage or a divorce.  If this has happened, you need to notify the Social Security Administration along with the Canisius College Human Resources Department.

The Social Security Administration needs a completed application for Social Security card along with proof of the change.  Don’t have time to go to the Social Security office?
