Faculty Tenure and Promotion Ceremony

Congratulations to eight Canisius faculty members who were promoted or granted tenure this fall. A ceremony and reception was held in the Andrew L. Bouwhuis Library on Friday, September 18 to honor them. In addition,
Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, S.J., was named president
emeritus of Canisius College.
Each honoree dedicated a book of his/her choice to the library’s main collection, which includes a personal dedication by the respective faculty member on the inside cover. The books are on display on the first floor of the library.
U.S. Policy Makers “Briefed” by Occhinpinti
John D. Occhipinti, PhD, chair of the Political Science Department, was a featured speaker at a recent ambassadorial seminar sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The objective of the seminar was to provide William E. Kennard, U.S. Ambassador-designate to the European Union, with a variety of perspectives on several important issues in which he will immediately need to engage European Union policy makers.
Occhipinti’s presentation, entitled “The EU: How Just? How Free? How Secure?” was given before approximately 50 U.S. government policy makers and analysts. He was one of only five noted European Union experts invited to participate in the seminar.
Koehneke is New President of BOC Board of Directors

The Board of Certification (BOC) named
Peter M. Koehneke, MS, ATC, president of its board of directors. Koehneke, professor of sports medicine, health and human performance and director of the college’s athletic training program, began his 12-month term in July 2009. Koehneke previously served as the BOC board’s vice president.
BOC, a national credentialing agency, has certified athletic trainers and identified quality healthcare professionals for the public since 1969.

Khalid W. Bibi, PhD, executive director of the Office of Professional Studies, is the senior editor of The

In addition, Bibi, along with
Dennis W. Koch, PhD, assistant professor of sports medicine, health and human performance at Canisius, and coordinator of the college’s Health & Human Performance Program, co-authored a chapter in the book on the use of metabolic calculations for the estimation of oxygen consumption, caloric expenditure and weight loss of various physical activities.
ACSM is the leading and the largest sports medicine and exercise science organization in the world and its certifications are considered the “gold standard” in the industry.
Public Safety Child Fingerprints Neighborhood Children
Aaron Taylor, officer for public safety, fingerprinted 25 neighborhood children at the Frank E. Merriweather Jr. Public Library branch on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo as part of Canisius College’s fall community day. James A. Murphy, III, lieutenant for public safety, also volunteered for the event.
