Lee Awarded Fellowship

Christopher R. Lee, PhD, associate professor of religious studies and theology, has been selected to receive a fellowship from the American Institute of Indian Studies/National Endowment for the Humanities for the 2009-2010 academic year. His project is an ethnographic study of the effect of globalization on the lives of Muslim traditional artisans in Varanasi, India.

Robinson Receives DEC Environmental Justice Grant
Erin Robinson, PhD, assistant professor of sociology, anthropology and criminal justice, has received a New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Grant for a project entitled “People’s Park Community Development and Sustainability.” This project will address the need to develop and maintain “People’s Park” on Main Street adjacent to the Tri-Main Center, into a sustainable community garden into long-standing feature of the landscape of the City of Buffalo.

The goal of the project is to determine how the park can be utilized to promote environmental justice in one of Buffalo’s most impoverished communities.

A paper co-authored by David J. Snyder, PhD, associate professor of management and marketing and Gina Giese MBA ’09 has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Business and Economics Research. Giese is vice president and Lockport commercial branch manager for M & T Bank. The article is entitled, “An Outlook on the Growing Hispanic Market Segment and the Ability of the U.S. Banking System to Effectively Penetrate the Hispanic Market Segment.”

Koehneke Re-Elected VP for Board of Athletic Trainers
Peter M. Koehneke, professor of sports medicine, health and human performance and director of athletic training education, has been re-elected as vice president of the Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainers. The BOC oversees the national credential certification examination and continuing competency for more than 35,000 athletic trainers nationwide.
